Are you interested in joining the Team? You don't have to be a qualified mountaineer to be part of our team and we are always looking for volunteers to help us.
Membership of the Team is not something to be considered lightly as the Police and public expect a professional service even though the Team is formed of unpaid volunteers. The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team is held in high regard in this respect and maintaining this depends on the full commitment of its members. Joining the Team will cost you time and money. You will suffer inconvenience, get wet, cold and tired and find yourself in potentially dangerous situations. Your own and others' safety will depend on your personal skills and your ability to work as part of a team.
If we haven't put you off, joining and working with the Team will be rewarding and will enable you to help provide a real service to those in need or difficulty in the Mourne Mountains and surrounding areas. You'll also get to meet like-minded people who have a lot of fun and spend a great deal of time partaking in all manner of mountain activities.
To apply, we require a written application as a firm statement of intent by you to join the Team. You should include in this letter your previous hill experience, any qualifications you have in mountaineering, climbing and first aid. You should also state your intentions and reasons for wanting to join the Team. On receipt of this letter, and acceptance by the committee, we'll ask you to fill in and return a membership form and you will be invited to our next induction day (be prepared for a wait as we only run them once or twice a year!).
The induction day will let you experience what it is like to be in the Team as well as give you the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have.
